Start your school day by setting your intention for a good day, releasing thoughts, feelings, or things that don’t serve you, stating what you are thankful for and focusing on only a few things that really matter. As your school day ends, reflect on your challenges and how well you were able to listen, relate, celebrate, and take care of yourself.
We need to take care of ourselves before serving others. Make it a priority to practice these self care and mindfulness tips everyday. Research proves that these practices decrease stress and anxiety, increases attention, improves interpersonal relationships, strengthens compassion, and has many other wellness benefits.
At the end of your day, reflect on where you fall on the scale of surviving to thriving. Track patterns of barriers or builders to thrive. Commit to listen, relate and celebrate the good in yourself and others, and not only will you feel a shift in your personal and professional space, but you and your students will thrive and grow in more ways that you can imagine.
I spent 30 years in education as a school administrator, counselor and parent. As an adult in our kid's lives we often focus all of our attention on what is best for kids and often forget to take care of ourselves in the mix of it. At times we feel helpless, tired, and ineffective. We tend to go on auto pilot and loose the edge that is needed to do what's best for kids. I have watched too many educators burn out, leave the profession or even worst, stay and be miserable. I am a big believer in self reflection and the power of taking time to really look at how we show up everyday! I created this guided journal to help you get back the clarity, energy and focus you need to navigate through the school day. This journal acts as a reminder that you are important and you can thrive in not only the face of adversity but embrace the goodness in each day! What's best for kids is for the adults in their lives to be at their best!
"Initially, I was unsure of the process of committing to journaling every day. As I made it part of my daily practice, journaling became a means of self-care that I looked forward to. The process itself was healing and I felt clarity in the way I approached my personal and professional life. "
Facing everyday challenges alone is stressful and can leave us feeling defeated and helpless.
